June 2011 -
Sensei Roy Tomlin, 5th Dan JKA, was on the receiving end recently of a
surprise birthday party organised by students of his Lewisham Shotokan
karate club. Club members gathered to celebrate Sensei Roys birthday
at a well-known pizzeria in Blackheath, South East London on 18 June
directly after the clubs grading. The highlight of the evening as far
as Sensei Roy was concerned, was the unique birthday cake which though
beautifully designed with the clubs badge, Sensei Roy said: The party
was a complete but very welcome surprise. The cake was amazing and a
fantastic time was had by all.
April 2011 -

March 2011 -
Dreams Come True -
Lewisham Shotokan Karate Club held a special two-hour training session
on Sunday 27 March to raise money for the Dreams Come True Charity. At
the session, attended by over 30 juniors and adults, club members were
taught a range of katas from Heian Shodan to Tekki Shodan (and all the
katas in between!) by Sensei Roy Tomlin, 5th Dan JKA, Sensei
Tony Cronk, Sensei Christophe Denaro, Sensei Frank Offiong
and Adotey Bing-Pappoe. All katas
were broken down and particular emphasis as ever went on turning as well
as the key points of each kata. Senior grades were also treated to an
intensive kumite session by Sensei Roy, which included a series of
attacks that focused on coordination, timing and distance.
Club members had been raising money over the whole month and raised a
total of 514.00. According to Sensei Roy, It was fantastic to see so
many club members at the event particularly coming a day after the club
grading. Were delighted to contribute to the Dreams Come True charity
and participate in such a worthwhile cause.
